Eric MacLeod, M.D.
A native of Rome, GA, Dr. MacLeod received a BS in Biology from Davidson College and attended medical school at Emory University where he graduated in the top of his class. He was asked to stay at Emory for his Orthopedic surgery residency where he was a team physician for Georgia Tech Athletics. During his nine years at Emory University, he published articles, was awarded three top honors for research, was named to numerous medical honor societies and was awarded an honorary scholarship for excellence in surgery.
Afterwards, Dr. MacLeod and his family moved to Park City, UT where he was accepted into the prestigious Utah Sports Medicine Program. Here he completed a fellowship in sports medicine/shoulder and knee surgery focusing on innovative arthroscopic and reconstructive treatments. While at the University of Utah, Dr. MacLeod was a team physician with the Utes football, basketball and soccer teams.
Dr. MacLeod has since become the Head Team Physician for the US Freestyle Kayak team and is a physician for the US Ski and US Snowboard teams. During his three years of practice in Rome, Dr. MacLeod was a team physician to Shorter University.
Dr. MacLeod’s practice focuses on the injured athlete as well as conditions of the shoulder, knee, and hip, with emphasis on arthroscopic and reconstructive treatments to preserve or restore cartilage. He also performs total joint replacement of the shoulder, knee, and hip.
Dr. MacLeod is one of a very few physicians in the United States performing both anterior approach hip replacement and arthroscopic hip surgery. He is south Georgia's permier hip specialist offering these advanced, minimally invasive procedures. In addition to providing expert care to his patients, Dr. MacLeod teaches other surgeons how to perform arthroscopic hip surgery as an associate master instructor at the Orthopedic Learning Center in Chicago, IL.
