Wound Care

If you or a loved one has a wound or sore that has not healed in 30 days, you may have what is referred to as a “chronic, non-healing” wound. These types of wounds can have serious health consequences and may adversely affect your quality of life. At CRMC’s Wound Care & Hyperbaric Clinic, healing wounds is our specialty. Our team of wound care specialists works with you and your physician to help you heal. Our treatment plans are designed to complement the care your own physicians provide, ensuring that your healthcare team is constantly working together to provide the treatment that is right for you.

Our physicians treat a variety of wounds including:

  • Diabetic foot wounds
  • Post-surgical wound care
  • Burns
  • Diabetic foot wounds
  • Venous ulcers
  • Arterial ulcers
  • Surgical and pressure-related wounds
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Radiation injury/necrosis
  • Necrotizing infections

Most treatments are covered by Medicare/Medicaid, HMOs, and other private insurance plans. Working together with the referring physician and other care providers, our staff provides individualized care and offers some of the most current modalities including:

  • Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy
  • Bioengineered tissue alternatives
  • Negative pressure wound therapy
  • Specialty dressings/wraps
  • Compression therapy
  • Debridement (removal of dead tissue)
  • Off-loading (taking pressure off the wound)
  • Total contact casting
  • Topical medications
  • Venous and tissue oxygenation testing

Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is a treatment in which the patient breathes 100% pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. The increased air pressure inside the chamber helps your blood carry more oxygen to organs and connective tissues to promote wound healing. HBO is provided once daily for approximately four to six weeks. One treatment takes about two hours and is quite comfortable for most patients.
