DOUGLAS, GEORGIA (May 1, 2023) – Coffee Regional Medical Center has been awarded re-accreditation from Corazon, Inc., for Catheterization Laboratory with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) services. Corazon, Inc. is a national leader in services for the cardiovascular specialty.
This re-accreditation is a testament that the program at Coffee Regional has continually met or exceeded the requirements established by the Georgia Department of Community Health (GA-DCH) in accordance with the Certificate of Need (CON) Review Standards for Cardiac Catheterization Services.
This recognizes Coffee Regional’s commitment to having quality PCI services available at all times, meaning a team of cardiac catheterization lab staff and an Interventional Cardiologist will be on the campus of CRMC or within 30 minutes of the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The program will continually undergo detailed quarterly quality reviews to ensure outcomes and practices meet or exceed national standards.
PCI services are vital when a patient presents to the Emergency Room with coronary symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest, arm, or jaw pain, or indigestion that has not been relieved quickly with medication. This procedure can diagnose and treat most heart attacks. If a blockage is found during the cardiac catheterization procedure, a stent can be placed to open that blockage, restoring blood flow to the heart and increasing patients’ chances of recovery. Percutaneous means “through the skin” therefore, this is a minimally invasive procedure, allowing the patient to recover quickly from the procedure.
